  • A full ADHD assessment can take up to three hours of contact time to complete, plus some background time for us to complete our admin and write up your results.

  • A full ADHD assessment costs $1000, which covers all components from initial referral through to the feedback, report and recommendations.

  • Definitely not.

If ADHD does not appear to be the best explanation for your experiences, we will say so. Our aim is not to “find ADHD”, but to help you understand what is going on and to determine what supports will be most helpful. We want any assessment process to be validating and clarifying, whether or not ADHD is indicated.

  • It can, yes.

An ADHD diagnosis can be made following thorough assessment, and with medical oversight. We conduct diagnostic ADHD assessments in partnership with your primary healthcare provider. Our role is to gather all the information needed to determine whether or not ADHD is present, and your GP or Nurse Practitioner can formalise a diagnosis after implementing a successful treatment plan.

  • In short, we’ll talk about it, and pivot if we need to.

If, during the course of our face-to-face session, it seems unlikely that ADHD is present, but something else might be, we’ll talk about changing up the scope of the assessment and using the rest of our time to explore this different topic.

  • Psychologists cannot prescribe medication, so we conduct these assessments in partnership with your healthcare provider. With your consent, we share assessment findings and recommendations with your GP or Nurse Practitioner. These medical professionals are able to discuss ADHD treatment options including medication - where appropriate - and to monitor the effectiveness of these supports over time.

  • Yes, we can and we do.

Our psychologists can assess and diagnose a range of conditions. If an ADHD assessment indicates there are alternative or co-occuring conditions we can identify and support you with, we will provide options for this. If we identify areas that would benefit from further assessment outside our services, we will discuss this with you and provide appropriate recommendations.

  • Some private health insurance policies may offer partial or full reimbursement for psychology services. We recommend checking directly with your insurer to explore this as an option.

  • Yes. Coming to terms with an ADHD diagnosis, if one is made, takes time. Te Wheke offers optional follow-up sessions to provide psychoeducation, coaching, and ongoing support. These sessions are designed to help you integrate strategies, make sense of the diagnosis, and feel supported as you navigate any changes in your life.

  • Absolutely!

Coming to terms with an ADHD diagnosis rarely happens in a single moment. If you have been assessed and diagnosed by another provider, and want support in that sense-making phase, we are well-placed to help you. We typically recommend 1–3 follow-up sessions which can be scheduled in quick succession soon after a diagnosis has been made, or could spread out over months, depending on your needs and preferences.
